March 29
We had our first day off of the tour. Exene and Raven had gotten up early and went wondering around the Quarter. I slept as late as I could in hopes of destroying the lingering cold in my head, nose and throat. In all honesty, I think my sick feeling had more to do with all the smoking going on around me in the past few days but still, sleep seemed too help.
I snuck a shower and then went looking for a Chase bank so I could deposit some cash and wire home some money. Along the way, I enjoyed the sights, sounds and smells of New Orleans’ heart line, Bourbon Street. I people-gazed and took loads of photos before finally getting my bank biz done. I watched many street musicians do their thing and marveled at just how much moola was sitting in their jars and guitar cases. I’d play in the street every day if I lived in New Orleans. I know I would.
Or, at least I think i would.
The weather was nice and I didn’t feel like stressing out about my current weirdness (or whatever the fuck it is) with Exene so I walked and walked and walked and finally, stopped for food.
As I wandered, I couldn’t stop thinking about Hurricane Katrina and seeing all the devastation on TV that had occurred in N.O. in 2005. In the small part of town I was in, you would have never known that such devastation had ever taken place here.

I returned back to the hotel but couldn’t find the key Exene had kindly left for me so I called Raven to ask if I could borrow hers. She was at a bar a couple of blocks away so I walked over and we chatted for a bit before going back to the room. She expressed some slight frustration over having to chase Exene around, trying to find her but she seemed in good spirits.
Didn’t do much else the rest of the evening. I had my first really good day on this trip and I didn’t need anything specific to do.
